Solo vs Couple Sessions on PairLume: Which One to Use
The difference between working alone and working together on PairLume, what each is good for, how privacy works between partners, and how to move between them.
PairLume has two modes, and they are not the same product with a different label.
Couple session
Both partners are in one live room at the same time. The guidance is addressed to the pair, turn taking is enforced, and the recap belongs to both of you. Use it for a live disagreement, a weekly check in, a decision you keep circling, or a repair conversation after a rough week.
The strength of a couple session is that neither of you has to relay what the other said. You both hear the same words at the same time, which removes an entire category of argument.
Solo session
One person, working alone. Nobody else sees it, including your partner. Use it to work out what you actually feel before you say it, to prepare for a conversation you have been avoiding, to process a fight that already happened, or to keep going when your partner is not ready to join anything.
Solo work is not a consolation prize. A large share of the movement in a relationship comes from one person changing how they open a conversation.
Which to pick
Situation Use Same argument keeps repeating Couple You cannot name what is bothering you Solo first, then couple Partner is unwilling right now Solo Long distance and time is short Couple, scheduled You need to cool down after a fight Solo, then couple the next day Planning a hard conversation Solo to rehearse
Privacy between partners
Shared sessions are shared. Solo sessions are private and are not surfaced to your partner anywhere in the app: not in the recap list, not in notifications, not in a shared history. This is deliberate. Solo work is only useful if it is honest, and it is only honest if it is private.
Moving from one to the other
The common path is solo to couple. You use solo mode to get from "I am angry" to "here is the specific thing that hurt and here is what I want instead", then bring that sentence into a couple session. It shortens the shared conversation by a lot.
If a couple session gets heated, splitting into two short solo sessions and reconvening the next evening usually beats pushing through.
