When to Take a Break From PairLume Community
Signs it is time to step back, how to do it without disappearing, and how to come back on your terms.
Community is nourishing. It is also a lot. Even the healthiest room can start to feel heavy if you have been in it every day for months. Knowing when to step back is part of being a long-term member.
## Signs it is time
Some quiet signals to watch for: - You open the app and feel tired before you have read anything - You are drafting replies in your head at the grocery store - You are more upset than usual about strangers online - You compare your relationship to others in the feed - You feel obligated to check in on people you have never met
None of these mean you are doing anything wrong. They mean the well is low.

## Small breaks first
A break does not have to be dramatic. Try one of these first: - Mute one room for a week - Turn off notifications for a weekend - Only read comments on posts you already made, and skip the feed - Delete the app from your phone but keep it on your laptop
Most of the time, a small break resets you within a few days.
## How to pause without ghosting
If you were mid-conversation with someone, send a short message: "Stepping back from the app for a bit, will pick this up when I am back." Two lines, no explanation needed. Kind people will understand instantly.

## What to tell yourself while you are away
The community will not fall apart without you. Other people will show up for the posts you would have shown up for. Your absence is not a betrayal. It is maintenance.
## Coming back gently
When you return, do not try to catch up on everything you missed. Start with your saved posts, or with one room you love. Read for a day or two before you comment. Post when it feels natural, not before.
If a friend from the community reached out while you were away, reply to them first. Those small threads are the ones that make coming back feel warm.

## When a longer break makes sense
Sometimes the answer is a month, or three. That is fine too. Communities are not gyms. There is no membership to keep active. When you come back, people will be glad to see you, and the app will still work.
## A short permission slip
You are allowed to leave a room without announcing it. You are allowed to unfollow someone whose posts drain you. You are allowed to log off in the middle of an interesting thread. Your peace is not up for a vote.
Taking care of your relationship with the community is part of being in the community. Rest well, and come back when it feels right.
