What Do You Say to an AI Therapist? Starting Scripts
If you froze the first time you opened the chat, you are not broken. Here are the first lines that get you unstuck.
Almost everyone freezes the first time. The cursor blinks, you have a hundred things in your head, and somehow none of them want to be the first sentence. So here are first lines that work. Steal any of them.
## If the day was loud
"Today was loud. I do not even know where to start. Can you ask me one question."
That is enough. A good wellness tool will take that and run with it. The [3 minute check in](/assessment) is literally built to handle the I do not know where to start opening, because that is how most people arrive.
## If you are not even sure why you opened it
"I do not know why I am here. Something feels off and I cannot name it."
Naming that you cannot name it is, surprisingly, the start of naming it.
## If you have a specific thing on your mind
"I keep thinking about a conversation I had three days ago and I want to stop replaying it."
Specific is good. Specific gets you somewhere in five minutes.
## If you are angry
"I am angry and I do not want advice. I want to write it out and have something reflect it back to me without flinching."
A wellness tool that is worth its name will not try to fix you when you say that. It will just stay with you.
## If you have twenty minutes
Open a [solo session](/dashboard). Start with, "I want to walk through my week. Help me notice what I missed."
That single sentence usually unlocks more than an hour of unstructured thinking.
## What not to do on the first try
Do not try to write a perfect summary of your whole life. Nobody does this well, including in real therapy. The first session, with any tool or any human, is for finding the door, not the whole house.
## The smallest possible start
Type one true sentence. Just one. The next sentence will arrive on its own. That is the whole trick.
