Check In at the Traffic Light

A real, slightly silly experiment in using red lights as a wellness cue.

Red lights are tiny gifts of forced stillness that most of us spend cursing.

What this looks like in real life

Try this for a week. At the first red light of the day, do a thirty second version of the check in. One feeling, one body sensation, one intention for the next ten minutes. Build up to the full three minutes parked somewhere safe.

Why it works

Most of us live with a quiet pile of things we have not quite named. Small frustrations, small wants, small noticings. The pile is not heavy on any given day, but it gets heavier as the week goes on. A short, structured pause stops the pile from running the show.

How to actually try it

Do not save it for the perfect moment. Perfect moments do not arrive. Pick an ordinary day, an ordinary chair, and give it the smallest possible version of your attention. The practice is not precious. It is portable.

What changes

You will notice how often the body is already trying to tell you something the meeting cannot hear.

One last honest note

This is not a magic trick. It is just a small honest door. Some days you will walk through it and feel nothing in particular. Some days it will quietly change the shape of your week. Both are fine. Both count.

Take the 3 min check in. It really is just three minutes, and your future self will thank you.
